Democracy is not a spectator sport! Democracy cannot operated in a void, and we the people must participate in discussions of national importance. Take time to contact your elected representatives, and the White House. These folks are the employees, we, the people are the employers. We are empowered through the ballot box, and through contact with those who make policy to effect the conditions of our existence.
When contacting a member of congress, the white house or local representative a couple things should be remembered.
1. When phoning a representative, be polite. Most often who you will be talking to is an aid for the representative.
2. Make your point calmly, let your passion for the issue be communicated through thoughtful dialog and not rage.
3. Find out who is on the committee for the issues you are pursuing. Even if they are not your elected official, they make policy which effects you. The heads of committees can be found by going to: Congress
